How to make Turkey Sliders with Step-By-Step Instructions

A complete printable recipe and the measurements in both US customary and metric are available in the recipe card below.

I’m excited to share how simple and satisfying it is to throw together these delicious turkey sliders—let’s get started!

Assembling Your Sliders

Preheat your oven to 180ºC (350°F). Using a serrated knife, slice the tops off the rolls and set them aside. Spread Dijon mustard on the bottom half of the rolls, then place them in a baking dish.

Sliced cooked meat on top of sliced potatoes in a speckled baking dish, reminiscent of deconstructed turkey sliders.
Spread Dijon on bottom rolls, add Havarti cheese, then layer turkey slices.

Layering the Goodness

Cover the bottoms with slices of creamy Havarti cheese, and don’t worry if they overlap each other. Next, layer on the turkey slices, but try to keep these separate if you can!

Mixing the Flavor

In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, dried onion, and poppy seeds.

Baking to Perfection

Brush or spoon the butter mixture generously over the top of the sliders. Cover the dish with foil to keep all that moisture and flavor intact, and bake for 10 minutes.

Then, remove the foil and continue baking for another 7 minutes or until the tops are golden and the cheese is melty.

The Finishing Touch

Once out of the oven, sprinkle some sea salt flakes over the sliders for an extra pop of flavor. Now, they’re ready to serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Turkey: Deli turkey or leftover Thanksgiving turkey are both delicious in these turkey cheese sliders. Use what you have on hand or what is easiest.
  • Rolls: Small party rolls or Hawaiian rolls are ideal for these sliders.
  • Cheese: Havarti cheese is a great choice for these sliders, but feel free to experiment with Swiss, provolone, or even a sharp cheddar or white cheddar cheese for a different taste.
  • Mustard: If Dijon mustard isn’t your style or you’re out of it, try honey mustard for a sweeter profile or a spicy brown mustard for a bit more kick.
  • Poppy Seeds: They add a nice crunch and visual appeal to the sliders, but if you’re not a fan, simply leave them out or replace them with sesame seeds for a subtle nutty flavor.
  • Doubling Up: This recipe scales up perfectly for larger crowds. Just double the ingredients and use a larger baking dish to accommodate more rolls.
  • Extra Turkey: If you have more leftover turkey to use up, feel free to add an extra slice to your sliders.
  • Other Toppings: Get creative! Some caramelized onions, a slice of tomato, or even some crispy bacon can add extra layers of yum. If you have leftover cranberry sauce, you can spread that over the bottom bun before adding the cheese.
  • Chicken: Chicken works just as well as turkey in this recipe. Use leftover rotisserie chicken for a quick swap that’s equally delicious.
  • Make Ahead: You can assemble these sliders a few hours before baking. Just keep them covered in the refrigerator and brush with the butter mixture just before baking.

Storage Instructions

  • Fridge: Turkey sliders are just as tasty the next day. To keep them fresh, store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll stay delicious for up to three days.
  • Reheat: When you’re ready to reheat, simply pop them back into the oven at 350°F for about 5 to 10 minutes, or until they’re warmed through and the cheese gets melty again. Avoid the microwave if you can; it tends to make the rolls a bit soggy.

Recipe Notes and Tips

Here are a few tweaks and tips I’ve gathered that will help make your turkey sliders even better:

  • Make Ahead: You can assemble these sliders a few hours before baking. Just keep them covered in the refrigerator and brush with the butter mixture just before baking.

How to Store Leftover Sliders

Turkey sliders are just as tasty the next day. To keep them fresh, store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll stay delicious for up to three days.

When you’re ready to reheat, simply pop them back into the oven at 350°F for about 5 to 10 minutes, or until they’re warmed through and the cheese gets melty again. Avoid the microwave if you can; it tends to make the rolls a bit soggy.

What to Serve with Turkey Slider Sandwiches

For a classic side, nothing beats a pile of crispy potato chips. If you’re aiming for something a bit lighter, a tangy coleslaw or a healthy salad can add a crisp contrast to the sliders’ rich flavors.

I even like to pop a bit of salad into my slider for a refreshing bite when I dig in. For larger gatherings, a pasta salad can round out the meal perfectly.
