Prepare the pan

Start by lining an 8×8 baking dish with aluminum foil. Spray it lightly with cooking spray to prevent sticking and set it aside.

This step makes cleanup a breeze and ensures your fudge comes out perfectly shaped.

Melt the chocolate mixture

In a medium saucepan, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk. Set the heat to low and stir continuously.

Keep going until the mixture is silky smooth and fully melted—don’t rush this step, as low heat prevents burning and ensures the fudge is creamy.

Chill and cut

Allow the fudge to cool completely at room temperature, then transfer it to the refrigerator to set for about 3 hours.

Notes

  • Use good-quality chocolate: High-quality chocolate chips give your fudge a rich, smooth texture. It’s worth the extra cost!
  • Melt low and slow: Keeping the heat low prevents scorching and ensures the chocolate stays smooth. Stir constantly to avoid lumps.
  • Foil is your friend: Lining the pan with foil makes it much easier to remove and cut the fudge without a mess.
  • Add your flair: You can swap out crushed peppermint candies for festive sprinkles, white chocolate shavings, or even crushed Oreos for a fun twist.
  • Let it set fully: Be patient and give the fudge enough time to firm up in the fridge before slicing. This prevents a sticky mess.
  • Cut cleanly: Run your knife under hot water, dry it, and use it to make clean cuts. Repeat as needed for neat squares.
  • Perfect for gifting: Wrap individual squares in wax paper or place them in decorative tins or gift bags for a sweet homemade gift.

For long-term storage, you can freeze it. Wrap each square tightly in plastic wrap and store them in a freezer-safe container for up to three months. When you’re ready to enjoy, let the fudge thaw at room temperature for the best texture.

Pair your peppermint fudge with holiday drinks like hot cocoa, eggnog, or a cozy latte. It’s also great served alongside a platter of cookies, a bowl of caramel popcorn, or even on a dessert charcuterie board.
