How to Make Candy Cane Fudge

Made with minimal stress, this candy cane fudge recipe is your new best friend. Let me break down this festive treat step-by-step.

Prep Your Pan

Start by lining an 8×8-inch baking dish with aluminum foil, then give it a good spray with non-stick baking spray. This setup helps your fudge come out easily without sticking, and the foil makes cleanup a breeze.

Melt the Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the white chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk. Heat this mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Once the chips are almost melted, remove the pan from the heat and keep stirring until the mixture is perfectly smooth and the chocolate is fully melted.

Flavor It Up

Stir in the peppermint extract and your crushed candy canes or mints. This is where your fudge gets its minty flavor, so feel free to adjust the amount of peppermint extract to match your taste buds.

Color Half

Take half of your fudge mixture and pour it into a separate bowl. Add a few drops of red food coloring to this portion and stir until the color is evenly distributed. Now you’ve got your white and red fudge ready to go.

Layer It Up

Pour dollops of the white and red fudge into your prepared pan, pressing them into an even layer. We did this in two layers.

A rectangular baking dish lined with foil contains a candy cane fudge mixture, its red swirls artfully set on the marble countertop.
Pour dollops of white and red fudge into the prepared pan, pressing evenly. Chill 2–3 hours.

Chill and Cut

Pop the pan into the fridge and let the fudge chill out for about 2-3 hours until it’s set. After it’s firm, lift the fudge out by the foil, peel it away, and cut the fudge into squares.

Serve up your festive Candy Cane Fudge and get ready to enjoy the holiday cheer in every bite! Pair them with a cup of coffee or a glass of milk for the perfect sweet treat.

Notes

  • Go Bold with Peppermint: If you’re a fan of strong peppermint flavor, don’t hesitate to add a little extra peppermint extract. Just remember, a little goes a long way!
  • Top It Off: Before the fudge sets, sprinkle some extra crushed candy canes on top for added crunch and peppermint pizzazz.
  • Coloring: Feel free to adjust the amount of red food coloring to get the shade you desire. A deeper red looks stunning against the snowy white fudge.
  • Cutting Squares: For clean cuts, dip your knife in hot water and wipe it dry between slices. This helps you get those perfect squares without the fudge sticking to the knife.
  • Gift It: This fudge makes a fabulous gift. Pack it in a cute tin or a clear cellophane bag tied with a festive ribbon for a homemade holiday treat that anyone would be thrilled to receive.

Storage Instructions

  • Room Temperature: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature. It will stay delicious and creamy for up to two weeks.
  • Fridge: If you prefer your fudge a bit firmer, you can also pop it in the refrigerator. Just make sure to wrap it well or keep it in a sealed container to prevent it from absorbing any fridge odors or drying out.
